(An award-winning Christian novella with a touch of romance.) When Troy Daniels and his family arrive in Spring River, Wyoming, Toby, the town’s busybody, is certain the young man is on the run. His suspicions are well founded: Troy is facing serious accusations from a former friend, the possible loss of someone close to his heart, and the probability of death. Lots of twists and turns in the plot and a surprise ending in this beautiful story of vengeance, love, and forgiveness set in the old American West. (The Innocent for the Guilty has won a five-star gold award from Literary Titan and is a finalist in the Christian Indie Awards.)

(This book recently won first place in the novella category in the Christian Indie Awards. 🙂 )

Review: (five-star) This book, The Innocent for the Guilty, was a sweet and heart-warming story. The Daniels family, was a picture of love and strength, the kind only possible through Christ, which they eminated to everyone around them. Faced with a seemingly impossible situation, this tender-hearted family dug deeper into the roots of their faith and touched an entire town in the process. The humbleness of these characters, and their love for even the “worst of us” was inspiring. You cannot help but smile as you watch hearts change and bonds grow in this small cowboy town. When we are weak, He is strong. If you are looking for a story full of suspense, courage and love, then this cozy western is for you. You will not be disappointed.

I Have Loved Each Book In This Series

Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2024

I have waited anxiously for this book, and it did not disappoint. I couldn’t wait to learn about Thomas; I loved him as a boy, and as a man he is endearing. I loved all of the key characters; however, the supporting characters were just as good. I think the author showed the depth of the characters. I loved the closeness of the boarding house, and the suspense of characters making wrong choices. I loved bits of history woven into the story. I especially love and appreciate how the author weaves faith and what it means to have a true relationship with God. Teddy was a jewel! Heidi’s writing is captivating. I found myself hurrying through work and responsibilities so I could escape to the wonderful world she created. I enjoyed Philadelphia, but it was good to get back to Missouri. I am anticipating the next book in the series. I am glad we got a glimpse of Gabe, but I am looking forward to his story next time. Keep writing, Heidi. We are holding our breath until the next installment.

Becky Nelson fled her childhood home and risked irreparable damage to her relationship with her only sister for an independent life in Kansas. The bookish bachelorette had no sooner settled in the Sunflower State when her path crossed with Henry, a ruggedly handsome farmer.

The draft selects the seemingly untouchable Henry, and the couple rushes to make their union permanent before the war carries him to far-off lands. As the days turn to months, their letters give Becky and Henry the strength to go on as he serves his country, and she shares their home with an unlikely guest.

As more men leave to fight in the war and fewer letters return, it’s up to Becky to keep their farm going. Will Henry return home, or will this war rob her of the only man she’s ever loved?

Letters from Kansas is an inspirational story set during one of the most heart wrenching times in American history. The Letters from Home novels are standalone books, but it’s more fun when you read them all!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Outstanding Story of Love and Courage
Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2024
This is at times a tragic, yet heart-warming love story of two individuals overcoming obstacles and adversity in life as Henry goes off to war while his new bride endeavors to manage the family farm. It is a story of courage and dignity, how love can endure even in the most difficult of times, and how community support is so important.
I loved this story and the beautiful tale that author Karen Lopez weaved. It contains an array of emotions, and the characters are so relatable that I felt those same emotions as I turned the pages. I highly recommend this book. It does not disappoint.
